WestJet Rewards – An update on WestJet dollars that expire

May 18, 2021

If your client had WestJet dollars that expire or have expired since the onset of the pandemic, we have now extended the period of use for funds for an additional 12 months.

  • WestJet dollars that expired between March 1, 2020, and May 9, 2021 have been reinstated to members’ accounts and will be available until May 10, 2022.

  • WestJet dollars that were due to expire between May 10, 2021 and September 30, 2021 have been extended one year from the original expiry date.

If your client has opted into receiving account updates, they have been notified via email of the change implemented and can view updates in their WestJet Rewards account.

Now that the initial reinstatements and extensions are complete, an automated job will run regularly to locate and reinstate or extend any eligible WestJet dollars that become available because of a flight or package cancellation. If your client cancels a booking where WestJet dollars used have expired or were set to expire between March 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021, they will be returned to the account and automatically extended with no action required on the part of the Rewards member.

WestJet dollars that expire on or after October 1, 2021
WestJet dollar amounts set to expire on or after October 1, 2021 are not extendable. However, they can be used towards a flight or vacation package booking made prior to the expiry date. Travel can occur after the expiry date.
