Update on Boeing 737 MAX

November 18, 2020

Today, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified the software and approved the Boeing 737 MAX for passenger service. As a next step, Transport Canada will complete its own independent validation process before reopening the skies. WestJet’s MAX aircraft will only return to service after:

  • Transport Canada reopens the skies
  • Our aircraft have the required software updates and have flown a validation flight
  • All required pilot training and education is complete
  • We are confident they are as safe as any other aircraft in our fleet

The work by Transport Canada and other regulators around the globe, in combination with WestJet’s own preparation, processes and due diligence, gives us confidence in returning these aircraft to service once Transport Canada opens the skies to the MAX.

We will continue to communicate updates with you as we receive them.
